Economic Development Sedalia-Pettis County (EDSPC) presented two prestigious awards Thursday night at the Sedalia Country Club to recognize individuals or organizations that have been "strong drivers or pillars drivers for economic development projects, or general economic growth here in our community," according to EDSPC Executive Director Jessica Craig.

Honored were Sedalia School District 200 and Terry Maglich of the Missouri Department of Economic Development at the 12th annual "Works For You" awards banquet.

Accepting the Award for Sedalia 200 was Superintendent Brad Pollitt, who said it was a great honor, adding that this is a community with a backbone of economic development and a manufacturing base. "So with the Sedalia School District being a part of this community, and being a part of working to educate future workers, and hoping those kids will stay here and be a part of this community and our manufacturers, it's a great honor. So on behalf of the Board of Education and Smith-Cotton High School and the district as a whole, I accept this, so thank you," Pollitt commented following the event.

School board member David Wolfe said the award was a surprise, but "an honor to be here and support Brad and the school district. Mr. Pollitt is an outstanding leader. He and Mr. Norton both did a great job in directing the efforts the last few weeks in guiding us through some really tough times. So we're really happy to be a part of that and we could just not ask for better leadership than we have right now," Wolfe said. "We're very fortunate."

Maglich, in his remarks after receiving the plaque, said that the award was humbling. "I've done a lot of things in my life ... but nothing ever has been as rewarding as what I've done in Sedalia and Pettis County. It just seems to me that there was the understanding that you have to take care of what you've got and allow for growth ... and there's no other community than Sedalia that gets that better," he said.

"It's an example that I use, and I cover most of the state, when I'm talking about what it takes to grow and provide a better place to live. And I use Sedalia, Missouri, as that example," Maglich said, adding that Craig was his best employee when he was business development manager at MoDED.

EDSPC Board President Rusty Kahrs served as emcee for the banquet.
