A Sedalia sailor was recently honored as part of an awards banquet in Texas.

A press release from the Navy Office of Community Outreach says that Petty Officer 1st Class Holly Diaz, of Sedalia and assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, was recognized as the NRD's 2018 Classifier of the Year during the NRD's Annual Awards Banquet held at the Hangar Hotel and Convention Center.

More than 200 Sailors and support personnel received mandatory training for anti-terrorism/force protection, sexual harassment, suicide prevention, alcohol abuse, and fraternization.

“There’s nothing worse than having to send a sailor home and end their career because they chose not to follow rules and regulations,” said Cmdr. Jeffrey Reynolds, NRD commanding officer. “That’s why this training is important. If we take care of each other and adhere to the tenants of leadership, trust and professionalism, then we won’t have to worry.”

Joining in on the training was Command Master Chief Donald A. Charbonneau, the senior enlisted leader of Navy Recruiting Command spoke on the topics of transformation, recruiting goals, and fraternization.

After the training, the NRD held its awards banquet, where numerous sailors and support personnel were recognized for their outstanding contributions during 2018.

During the event, the NRD was recognized as Recruiting Region West’s 2018 Most Improved District of the Year.

“This award is the accumulation of hard work by every member of the command,” said Reynolds. “I couldn’t be prouder.”

NRD’s area of responsibility includes more than 30 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.

The Navy’s recruiting force totals over 6,100 personnel in more than 1,000 recruiting stations around the globe. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
