Snowstorm 2019

We all like to grumble and complain whenever it snows. We're sore from shoveling. There's no place to park. Some are dealing with downed tree limbs. I even saw an awning at a business that collapsed under the weight of the wet snow. But as inconvenient (and even dangerous) as this weekend's winter storm was across the Midwest, the snow did make things look pretty.

Weatherology meteorologist Michael Caro says that an official snowfall total of 12 inches was recorded just south of Sedalia. 11 inch totals were also reported in the Green Ridge area. "The worst of it was in east-central Missouri," said Caro. "Anywhere from about Boonville eastward toward near Columbia we had some 18-20 inch totals. The heaviest totals were just to the northwest of the immediate St. Louis metro vicinity."

The early extended forecast does include additional accumulating snow for next weekend, according to Caro. "I think at least we can put some 'accumulating snowfall' wording in there (the forecast). This would be especially later in the day Friday and into the day on Saturday. Kind of a similar timing with that next system. It's a little bit too early to nail down those exact accumulations at this point. It's not out of the question for some more accumulating snowfall Friday night and into Saturday."
