MTV has revealed its plans to reboot the iconic '90s animated series, Daria. Rebranded as Daria & Jodie, the show's newest incarnation will focus around Daria and her close friend Jodie Landon. Written by Grace Edwards (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Inside Amy Schumer), themes that will be analyzed through the show include "deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race." according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"We have talked to a bunch of people, informally, in advance of it and there's a ton of interest," said MTV Network president Chris McCarthy. "It’s less about the monetization and more about telling great stories.”

Although a release timeline has yet to be solidified, McCarthy revealed that the show (along with other reboots the station has planned), may not be featured on MTV exclusively. Shows could appear on streaming services such as Netflix, and although none have been picked up as of yet, he says they've "been having informal conversations.”

Daria began in 1997 as a spinoff of Beavis and Butt-Head. The show followed Daria Morgendorffer and her life as brutally honest and somewhat nihilistic teenager. It lasted five seasons, totaling 70 episodes, including one unaired pilot, two television movies and two specials.
