Authorities say a Jefferson City woman was in possession of a "substantial amount" of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, U.S. currency and packaging materials when she was stopped for speeding on U.S. 50 just east of California, Missouri.

According to the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Athena M. Smith gave deputies consent to search her vehicle, and told deputies that she had marijuana. Deputies reported finding the additional items during a search of the trunk.

Smith was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (meth) with the intent to distribute. She was transported to the Moniteau County Jail to await formal charges. Bond was set at $50,000.
