A Maryland man previously charged with enticing a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity was indicted by a federal grand on Wednesday.

The United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri says 22-year-old William Lee Dela Cruz was charged in a two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. Dela Cruz is charged with traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. The indictment also contains the original charge of enticing a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.

Dela Cruz was arrested on April 9 just hours after an AMBER Alert had been issued for a 12-year-old Blue Springs girl. Authorities say the girl told investigators she had been involved in an online relationship with Dela Cruz since November 2016, when she was 11 years old.

Dela Cruz is accused of traveling with his brother from Maryland to Missouri with the intent to pick up the girl and take her back to Maryland. Dela Cruz was arrested in Wentzville, Missouri, after members of the public contacted law enforcement regarding the AMBER Alert. The girl was found unharmed. Dela Cruz's brother has not been charged.
