A man from Syracuse, MO recently won a $50,000 Powerball prize and plans to make a donation to his church.

The Missouri Lottery says in a press release that Charles Stemberger won the $50,000 Powerball prize while on his way to his church’s weekly Sunday service.

“I stopped in Break Time on my way to church to check my tickets, like I do every week,” said Stemberger. “The screen said something about taking the ticket to the Lottery, which I had never seen before.”

Perplexed, Stemberger had the manager of Break Time, located at 600 Highway 5 in Tipton, take a look at the ticket.

“She told me what it was worth, and that I had better sign the back and claim in Jefferson City,” said Stemberger.

The Missouri Lottery says Stenberger matched four out of five white-ball numbers and the Powerball number to win a $50,000 prize for the May 26 Powerball drawing. Those numbers were 1, 21, 31, 45 and 49 with a Powerball of 21.

While claiming the prize on May 29, Stemberger said that the winning ticket was burning a hole in his pocket due to Lottery offices being closed on Memorial Day.

“I kept checking my wallet to make sure it was still there,” said Stemberger.
With the prize, Stemberger and his wife plan to pay off bills and make a donation to their church.
