Listen to an Unreleased Version of the Smiths’ ‘There Is a Light That Never Goes Out’ From Deluxe Edition of ‘The Queen Is Dead’

On Oct. 20, the Smiths will release a deluxe remastered edition of their 1986 landmark album The Queen Is Dead. You can listen to the first take of "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" above. 

The expanded reissue of the 1986 album, their third, is due Oct. 20 through Warner Bros. Records. The two-CD set or CD/DVD boxed set will include a remaster of the original record, as well as a number of demos, a previously unreleased concert from the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts in Mansfield, Mass., and a DVD of Derek Jarman's The Queen is Dead film.

“You cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve,” Morrissey said in a press release. “You progress only when you wonder if an abnormally scientific genius would approve – and this is the leap the Smiths took with The Queen Is Dead.”
