The Johnson County Adult Literacy Program is working hard to make sure everyone has the skills to be successful. No matter the reason,  they are here to help others learn to read, write and do basic math skills. They have certified tutors, who work one-on-one with students in a private and confidental setting. The tutor/student will meet one to two times a week for 1 hour sessions.  Along with adult literacy, they also have an ESL (English as a Second Language) program. They work with students in a private one-on-one setting or in a group setting. They also work on English conversational skills with trained facilitators.  They want to assist adults living in Johnson County and surrounding communities in developing basic reading, speaking, writing and computational skills in order to improve their ability to deal with modern society and thus gain a higher standard of living.  And now, you can help!  They're going to be hosting a big Scrabble Tournament and Silent Auction this very weekend.  I got to talk with Jamie Grohe about the tournament, and what you can check out at the auction.

So make sure to swing by and join em for an afternoon of word fun.  It’ll be held on Saturday, November 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall  on East Business Route 50 in Warrensburg.  You can send a team of up to 4 members, play individually, bid on silent auction items, purchase a Scrabble tournament tee-shirt, or send a donation to:
