Bike to Work Day is a nationally recognized event celebrated annually on the third Friday in May. Since May is National Bike Month, Sedalians have opportunities to participate all month long.National Bike Month includes an ever-expanding diversity of events in communities nationwide — but the biggest day of the month is Bike to Work Day. In 2014, Bike to Work Week will be May 12-16, with Bike to Work Day on May 16.   More than half of the U.S. population lives within five miles of their workplace, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work. With increased interest in healthy, sustainable and economic transportation options, it’s not surprising that, from 2000 to 2011, the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 47 percent. Hundreds of American communities have been successful in increasing bicycle commuting by providing Bike to Work Week and Bike to Work Day events.  One here locally is the Healthy U group, and I got to talk with Stephanie Fraley and Megan Webb about how they're encouraging us to Bike to Work this Friday.

So think about it - maybe you can have a little fun, get a little more active, enjoy our great weather, and win a prize while you're at it! Join Healthy U on their Facebook, or on the Bothwell Regional Health Center website.

Bikingly yours,
Behka
