Memorial Day weekend is here and it started yesterday with the day off. My son, Gabe has placed flags on graves at Crown Hill Cemetery ever since I brought him out there when he was four or five. This year, we got a late start, but we managed to place a few down this morning. Great job to Larry Brooks and the JROTC and all the volunteers at Crown Hill and surrounding areas.

I hope you take the time to reflect on the meaning of this weekend. There are many who have proudly served our great country in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, Reserves and National Guard. Please remember those in your family and friends that have gone before us. There is a service planned for 10 a.m. on Monday (May 25) at Crown Hill and then a picnic at Liberty Park, put on by the 40 & 8 at 11:30.

I do not have any relatives buried in this cemetery, but I always say the names from each of the headstones as we go around and feel like even if they don't have any living relatives that for that moment they are remembered and thanked.

The city of Sedalia recently announced that you can look up the records for those buried in Crown Hill.

Thanks to all those who proudly serve and those who have gone before us.
