Additional Information

In memory of 9/11, the AmeriCorps VISTAs of Minority/Underserved Outreach in Sedalia would like to invite the community to give back and pay tribute to our daily first responders. During and after the tragedy of 9/11, first responders worked tirelessly to save lives and help all people who were affected. Here in Sedalia, firefighters, police officers, and EMTs make a difference in people's lives every day by putting their lives on the line in the case of an emergency. There are a total of 189 first responders that we will be sending packages to, including 40 EMTs, 42 city firefighters, 40 county firefighters, 47 police officers and 20 officers at the Pettis County Sheriff’s office. We are collecting donations of small travel-size toiletries and thank-you cards to put in care packages for Sedalia's first responders from now until Monday, September 9. Currently the First Christian Church, the First United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, and Amigos de Cristo are our only collection sites, but we would like to involve as many churches as possible. Volunteers are welcome to come to the Salvation Army Corps office at 1200 E Broadway on Tuesday, September 10th to help assemble the care packages from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Please contact Laura Frye at Amigos de Cristo, 660-826-2788, for more information.
