Donald Glover has been cast to play Simba in Disney's upcoming live action remake of The Lion King.

On Friday (February 17), the film's director Jon Favreau, who also worked on Disney's live action Jungle Book film, announced the news on Instagram, writing, "I just can't wait to be king" along with a photo of the Golden Globe-winning actor and rapper.

Simba, however, won't be Glover's first role in the Disney universe. In 2016, he was cast as young Lando Calrissian in the company's planned Star Wars spinoff about Han Solo.

On Instagram, Favreau also revealed that James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa, sharing a photo of the esteemed actor and writing, "Looking forward to working with this legend."
