Well, it looks like action star Dolph Lundgren is stepping back into the world of DC Comics — this time into a big superhero tentpole. Lundgren has just joined the cast of James Wan’s Aquaman as the dastardly King Nereus.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lundgren is making his return to big-screen action movies for the first time since Expendables 3. He’s no stranger to the DC universe: for a few years he played criminal underlord Konstantin Kovar on The CW’s Arrow, so it sounds like he’s got a hankering to return to the genre of superheroes and villains.

Per THR:

Lundgren will play King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, who claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman.

So this makes three villains already on the Aquaman slate. We’ve got Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) making life under the sea more difficult for Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and now some dude is coming in to try to steal his girl. Not cool.

The cast of Aquaman also boasts Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother, Willem Dafoe as his buddy Vulko, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s dad. Aquaman is looking at a production start this May, and a release in theaters December 21, 2018. If that’s too long a wait, the king of the sea will also make a splash in Justice League, out November 17.
