“Race Car” Bob Hiller presented a $7,000 check to the Sedalia Police Department (Chief John DeGonia, Commander Larry Ward and DARE Officer Bradley Beard) on Monday to fund the Sedalia DARE program.
The presentation was made as a result of the 28th annual DARE Car Show, which was held April 7 just outside the Municipal Building at 2nd and Osage.

Hiller, who suffered two strokes March 19, followed by  two weeks of hospitalization, said he was proud of the community support that he enjoys and was more than glad to attend this year's event.

Hiller was accompanied Monday night by his long-time companion Maybelle Koeller. The presentation was made during a City Council meeting.

“My people who came and helped did an excellent job, I just kind of sat there and watched it all developed. That was a first for me,” Hiller said, adding that he was happy with the attendance at the car show on a cold April day. “You always want more, even if it's 65 in the shade. It just goes to show the community wants to support this program.”

Hiller added that he gets inquiries all the time from other DARE programs from across the US asking how the Sedalia program raises so much money. "The answer is simple," Hiller said. "Community support."
