We still don’t know what LOST and Leftovers boss Damon Lindelof’s new Watchmen series actually is, but it’s at least in good hands. The hotly-anticipated pilot officially has its director, as a key Leftovers alum goes behind the camera to kick off a new midnight watch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leftovers “No Room at the Inn” and “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World” director Nicole Kassell will helm the inaugural episode of HBO’s untitled Watchmen series, adding her name to the executive producer ranks as well. In addition to directing the two Leftovers episodes (both Christopher Eccleston-centric and series highlights), Kassell has also directed episodes of HBO’s Westworld, FX’s The Americans and AMC’s Better Call Saul.

HBO has only given a pilot order to the new adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ 1986 superhero tale, though we know the series won’t retread the same “unfilmable” story adapted by Zack Snyder in 2009. The original Watchmen explored a world in which the emergence of costumed heroes (and one super-powered being) radically altered history, while the murder of a retired hero reunites them around a doomsday plot. Zack Snyder’s adaptation starred Malin Akerman, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

We’ll likely hear additional Watchmen details as the pilot begins pre-production, so stay tuned.
