A ribbon-cutting and open house for Capstone Precision Group, 24732 Randall Road, was held Wednesday afternoon.

The distribution center formally housed Alcolac decades ago and now Capstone, which invested $2 million in the project, employs 15 people.

Capstone’s parent company, Nammo, includes some of the world’s most popular brands of ammunition and powders for hunters and sports shooters, including Lapua, Vihta Vuori, SK and Berger. The facility will act as a central distribution hub for retailers of premium civilian ammunition for all four brands, according to Economic Development Sedalia-Pettis County Executive Director Jessica Craig.

“This is such a big day. Not only are we seeing a new company invest in our community, they're a leader in the ammunition space with this great international distribution facility here. But it's also an exciting time for Pettis County to see an industrial complex that's been offline and off the grid for 26 years to come back online and really be a productive location for our local economy,” Craig said. “They are shipping product all over the world from right here in Pettis County.”

In his remarks, Bill Gravatt, president of Capstone, noted that the geographic location of Sedalia, coupled with an outstanding workforce here, were the deciding factors in bringing Capstone Precision Group to Pettis County.

Craig said that is quite a compliment. She added that her office began working with Capstone in November of 2016. “This was really the first opportunity I started working on. And about a year later, they opened the doors here,” Craig told KSIS, noting that it usually take 12 -18 months for a project this large to come to fruition.

“There's a lot of moving parts, and it is a team effort,” Craig said, adding that the state, county, city, utility companies and law enforcement “all have to come together to see the value in our community.”

EDSPC worked very closely with their partners to identify how the complex could be served to accommodate Capstone Precision Group’s new warehouse and distribution facility. One of those strategic partners was Central Missouri Electric Cooperative, represented by General Manager, Darren Eckhoff.

According to EDSPC Vice President Roger Austin, Dr. Paul Thompson purchased the complex several years ago with a vision that it could be re-established as a successful industrial complex once again.

"Through many hurdles and not so favorable odds, Dr. Thompson has brought his vision to light with Capstone Precision Group being the anchor tenant to this restored complex," Austin said during his remarks as emcee for the event.

Adam Braverman is the Director of Sales and Marketing for Capstone as well as the Site Manager for the facility. Braverman was the person who approached EDSPC with the opportunity to work on the project, Austin noted.

Construction and remodeling started on Randall Road in late August, 2017 and the company moved in Dec. 1. Braverman said a new line, Berger Ammunition will go online later this month. “That production operation is in our Mesa (Arizona) facility, and we'll ship that through here for distribution,” Braverman said.

State Fair Community College President Dr. Joanna Anderson said that SFCC stands ready to help with any future training needed for Capstone employees.

"If they need any workforce training, we are glad to come in & provide that as they look to growing and maybe scaling up employees who need specific skills to make this a more efficient operation," Dr. Anderson told KSIS.
