Summer reading is in full swing at the Boonslick Regional Library.  Keeping our kids reading every summer is a hugely important part of their schooling.  After all, if kids don't keep reading, they might fall behind when the school year arrives. That's why the Boonslick Regional Library is working to bring some science and excitement to the kids this summer with "Fizz, Boom, Read".  They have several programs for each age group. Book Buddies is a story time program for children 3 to 5 years of age. This helps preschoolers discover the fun and excitement of books, reading and the library. The program includes stories, fingerplays, song, creative movement, art activities, a short film and holiday parties. The 3-5 year old program will last about 45 minutes and will be held on Thursdays  at 9:30 or 11:00 a.m.  They've also got some great programs for the older kids to really bring the science aspect into this program. Dave Clippert of the Emergency Management Service will explain how the EMS system works at their next demonstration called "It's Raining, It's Pouring, The Old Man is Snoring". He will also give us some tips on how to keep safe during severe storms and other situations. This one is for the older kids, aged 6-11.  I got to talk to Jackie Oliphant with the Boonslick Regional Library about the summer reading programs, the demonstrations, and more.
