Denny

I've been in the radio industry for around 30 years. I tried to get a real job once or twice, I didn't like it. I've done about everything there is to do in this business, but I am currently the morning guy on BOB-FM, the radio voice for State Fair Community College Basketball, and do some radio sales. I also am the Host of the Dickie Doo Blues Hour..The Blues are my passion..hit me up let's talk about them sometime.

I love doing sports, but my passion is music.  I can't imagine going a day without hearing music. My personal preference is Blues, Classic Rock and Classic Country. That's why BOB is perfect for me, because the music is so eclectic, like my taste.

I have been married to Jeri, my wife, for 26 years and have two gorgeous and intelligent daughters, Sara and Abby.

Don’t Miss Mojo Roots at the Blues Cruise and BBQ Festival [INTERVIEW]

One of the bands performing at the Lions Club Blues Cruise and BBQ Festival on June 1 is a great young band out of Columbia: Mojo Roots.  These guys may be young, but they certainly understand and pay tribute to history of the blues, and I respect that a lot.  They have a new CD out and it is terrific!

Denny Waxes Nostalgic About his Old House

Here is another radio story for you.  When I was at my first radio station, a friend and I rented a house together.  In said house, we had a real nice fancy fish tank, but we had no fish. We weren't responsible enough for that, but we did have the tank and we kept it full of pretty blue water.

I guess I should mention that this house was a dump!  The floors slanted and the tank water levels slanted along with it.  My roommate once brought a girl over and she asked why the water levels went down on one end, and we told her it was because we had more rocks on one side of the tank. Never mind she just walked down a 30 degree incline.  Oh yes, he liked em smart!

More Good Radio Memories and Bad Management

My first program director was a bonehead, and how he ever got into radio as a PD is beyond me.  New music in those days would come in weekly on a large reel, as in reel-to-reel, and you would get 15 to 20 songs per week. The PD would listen to them, decide what to play and tell us to record them off on carts.  Carts were kind of like 8-tracks, for those of you who remember those. However, they were predetermined lengths of tape, and they were 4 tracks.  So if you had a 3-minute song you would record them off on a 3 1/2 minute cart. Sounds simple enough right? Wrong!

The Good Old Days of Radio

Every now and then I catch myself talking to the girls in the sales office about old time radio, and you can see the blank look in their faces when I speak of things like splicing blocks or back timing, cart machines, que burn on records.  Oh, man I miss those days.  Julie said I should write blog posts about those days because they find them interesting, so if we get response out of this I will.
