Dear Person Who Stole A Package From My Porch,

I think we need to talk.I've seen things like this happen on the internet, and I've heard about it happening to other people, but for some reason I honestly didn't think it would happen to me.  I was expecting a delivery on Thursday of last week, and when it didn't come, I called the supplier.  They informed me that they had in fact sent out the package, and had gotten confirmation of delivery. Right on my front porch.

I checked with Husbando, and he didn't see anything that day. I double checked my whole porch, and... nothing.  So, as a consequence, I had to re-order.

Now here's the thing. I don't know who you are, or why you took my package. Maybe you are a bored teenager who wants to make a little money. Maybe you think, "I'll take this package, I'll pawn what's in it, and hey! Money for me!"   It's not exactly a great way to make money, I'll give you that.  Maybe you're a person that's down on your luck. Maybe you wanted to take that package and maybe give it to someone you love for the holidays.

I guess I can understand that.

But... that's just it.  That wasn't a present. I'm sure you've discovered that by now.

It's medication.

I have Multiple Sclerosis.  I've talked about it before. Every month, my specialty pharmacy sends me a four week supply of a muscle injection that keeps me from having relapses. It's not an opiate, or any kind of "fun" drug.  You can't even really use the needles, they're like EpiPens. They are very specifically made for one purpose: to help slow the progression of MS. Those little white and purple boxes would be absolutely un-affordable if it weren't for their copay assistance program, by the way. A year's worth of that stuff costs $10,000. So you're sitting on about $834 of medication you can't use, re-gift, or sell.  And I have gone without my injection this week, but hopefully it won't impede my progress.

I hope you've learned something from this. Taking packages from other people, holidays or not, is wrong. I know you may have your reasons, and you may have your own good intentions for other people, but you just can't know the damage you might do if you take something that isn't yours. Please, if you're ever tempted to do this again to someone else, reconsider. You never know what you're taking away from someone, or what they've done to earn it. And at the end of the day.... you wouldn't want it to happen to you, would you? No.

I'm disheartened, Person. I'm disappointed. Part of me says that I should have known better, but another part of me says that I have the right to my privacy on my property. But, at the end of the day, my specialty pharmacy was very understanding, and I'll get another shipment this week. If you walk by, and see the package again, I'm sure you won't want another month's supply. But - please, please, please, don't inject yourself with this medication. It's only for people who have relapsing/remitting MS and it was specifically prescribed to me.  I don't want you to hurt yourself or anyone else by taking something you don't understand. It won't get you high. What it might do is hurt like the dickens and then make you really hot or really cold.

So, person - I hope we've learned something, at least.

Happy  Holidays.

Love,

The Person Whose Package You Stole
