Today we go back to October 4, 1996. This was the day that Tom Hanks decided to take a break away from doing movies like Forrest Gump and Philadelphia and have some musical fun with 'That Thing You Do.'

This movie started Tom Hanks, Tom Everett Scott, Liv Tyler, Johnathan Schaech, Steve Zahn and Ethan Embry. The story centered around a band wanting to win a talent show and then the thing you know they are playing clubs in the area and eventually meet Tom Hanks with Play-Tone Records.

It really showcased how strange things can happen to a band to make it big. The first drummer of the band broke his hand and then 'Shades' took over and changed the pace to a lot of the songs and suddenly became the center of the band.

One of my favorite scenes of the movie was when the band heard their song for the first time on the radio. Being a radio dj, I've had the chance to play a lot of people for the first time. To see the excitement in their eyes and their appreciation is amazing.

This movie is pretty accurate in showing how it is to be a one hit wonder. I sometimes wonder if they should do a sequel and follow them into the Vegas clubs or something.

Tom Hanks may not have won an Oscar with this performance, but it did garner over $34 million in the box office and 'That Thing You Do' is still played on 92.3 Bob-FM.
