Well, we got some weather, alright. And with all the bad driving conditions, that means kiddos are missing school. But that doesn't mean they just have to plop down in front of a screen all day. There are a lot of good ideas out there for things to do on a snow day, or even a sick day (the flu is going around, after all). So if you can't go out and play in the snow, here are five ideas for stuff you can do indoors.

1.  Paint The Snow.

This is something I wish I'd done as a kid. It's super simple, too.  All you have to do is take a plastic bin or container, and fill it with snow. Then, take some food coloring and put it in little ramikins, give em a brush, and go. You can also take some sand toys  or even some kitchen spoons and use them to play in the snow, and it's relatively easy.

2.  Indoor Counting Croquet.

All you need are some cardstock strips (maybe 3 long strips from each piece), markers, painter's tape, ball, hockey stick, croquet mallet, or golf club, cardboard tubes, boxes, etc.  Then you just tape some of the cardstock or cardboard down to the floor, decorate with markers, and use your hockey stick as a mallet!

3. Make Some Glitter Slime.

Here's what you need:

2 Tsp Borax (You can purchase at Walmart or Menards here in Sedalia)
1 1/2 Cups Water
1 Bottle of Elmer’s Glue
5 drops blue Food Coloring

All ya gotta do is a small mixing bowl and pour in 1 cup of water and 2 tsp of borax powder and stir the ingredients together. In a medium sized bowl pour in your entire bottle of Elmer’s white glue and pour in 1/2 cup of water, and stir. Once it's all stirred together, add in 5 drops of blue food coloring. Then you mix the products together. Pour in a lot of glitter and stir it together with your glue mixture. Now pour in the contents of your small bowl right into the middle and wait for it to firm up. Start squishing the slime together to make it more solid. Form it up in a ball away from the liquid and pour out the contents into the sink. Then, wa-la! You've got slime that's awesome and ready to play with. Then when you're done, you can just put it in a jar or a bag and it'll keep.

4. Make Button Rings.

I don't know about you, but we've got a TON of stray buttons around our house. So you can make some button rings with them! All you have to do is find buttons with a backing or a decent sized hole. You take pipe cleaners and put them in the holes, and you can cut them down to fit! Then can match or not, it doesn't really matter there - your imagination is the limit.

5. Make Your Own Skis.

This one is really clever. And you don't need to buy anything else. All you gotta do is cut down some cardboard for your "skis". Then, you take some two liters and cut off the top (or leave em on if you're extra classy) with another hole in the side for your feet to go through. Then, just tape the bottles to the skis with some heavy tape. Done! Instant skis!

Have a good time on your snow days!

Craftily yours,
Behka
